Overview of our school
The BBS Burgdorf-Lehrte is an innovative College of Further Education in the Hanover Region. It offers a wide range of courses qualifying for a professional career in commerce and industry, as a craftsman, or even for university. These courses are organized in 24 different types of full-time vocational school ranging from basic skills classes to A-level courses preparing students for higher education. Additionally our school offers part-time courses providing a variety of more than 30 job qualifications in ten different vocational areas. This part-time vocational school complements the on-the-job-training received in a company. Trainees and apprentices learning a trade attend our school for one or two days a week, usually over a period of three years.

In those part-time courses, which are part and parcel of the so-called dual system, we teach students general subjects as well as theoretical know-how meeting the special requirements of a certain business or craft. Within the broad range of courses we have specialized on teaching skills which are connected with the idea of mobility, e.g. forwarding and shipping goods or servicing and selling cars. In this area we also offer full-time courses providing additional qualifications for car mechanics who have already gained job experience.

Some 200 teaching staff who cooperate in a number of teams are involved in the overriding objective to qualify round about 3650 students as successfully as possible. Additionally, more than 30 secretarial and technical staff as well as social workers and caretakers provide all the services necessary to keep our school running.

The BBS Burgdorf-Lehrte consists of the main school with our central administration and two branches located in Burgdorf and Lehrte. The main school in Burgdorf, Berliner Ring 28, houses, among others, the home economics department and a number of vocational courses focusing on car technology. Thanks to a substantial investment by the regional authorities the Berliner Ring site was turned into Lower Saxony´s largest and most modern competence centre for vehicle technology in 2005. State-of-the-art facilities provide students with excellent opportunities to acquire theoretical know-how and practical skills in the same classroom.

The Burgdorf branch “Handelslehranstalt”, Vor dem Celler Tor 74, is home to the full-time and part-time courses in the fields of business and administration. This site is also equipped with sophisticated computer technology to teach, for example, courses for future forwarding agents and car dealers.  The Lehrte branch, Spreewaldstr. 1, houses the tertiary college for business studies and technology. Here A-level students as well as trainees and apprentices in the areas of information technology, electronics, and public transport find all the technical equipment necessary to prepare for future professional and scientific challenges.

Participation in competitions for students, in international school development projects and in European networks of vocational schools facilitate the influx of ideas to create innovative teaching projects. Regular sports festivals and cultural events contribute to make our school a special place to study and to work at. Continuous quality management based on EFQM guarantees the maintenance of excellent standards of vocational education at our school.
