How to bring company life into teaching
A Comenius School Development Project

The following project is going to be the basis of an official application within the framework of the new generation of EU-programmes (lifelong learning) which will be launched in 2007. This paper is the result of an international preparatory meeting taking place in Burgdorf and Lehrte from 7 to 10 September 2006. There were participants from the Erhvervs Uddannelses Center Själland in Nästved ( Denmark ), the Business Academy in Bratislava ( Slovakia ) and the BBS Burgdorf-Lehrte in Germany . This paper has been agreed on by Finn Rasmussen (Denmark),   Karlheinz Auckenthaler (Slovakia), Manfred Filsinger, Thomas Klein, Dieter Holthaus, Andrea De Parade, Matthias Gäde and Kai Flick (Germany).

Objectives
We are going to develop tools which intend to:

  • prepare students for different company cultures and patterns of business life in various European countries;
  • help students envisage future careers;
  • provide cross-cultural learning opportunities;
  • encourage students to think along entrepreneurial lines;
  • set up and improve ties to companies.

We consider it very important to involve students in the project as a whole and in any stage of the experiments carried out with businesses. The experience gained in these tests will be integrated in the teaching at our schools. The term “tool” refers to placements, students´ companies, classroom projects in cooperation with business etc.

Timeframe
The project is supposed to be completed within a period of three years. It should be structured in six stages:

Stage 1:
Analysis of existing tools in each school/country participating in the Comenius project.

Stage 2:
Development of new tools.

Stage 3:
The tools will be tested, i.e. teachers will put the ideas in their teaching.

Stage 4:
Evaluation of the testing.

Stage 5:
Adjustments to the tools and dissemination of the results: our ideas and the experience we will have gained will be made available to other teachers and companies
